Kata Beach Guide

What to Do in Kata Beach

You will feel as though you have your own beach while you are walking on these peaceful beaches. After dark, just a couple minutes walk takes you to the entertainment areas. In addition, a host of shops are always ready to warmly welcome you and are open almost around the clock.

Kata beach (20 & 17 km from town) Beautiful Kata is a scenic gem, its clear water flanked by hills, and picturesque Bu island sits offshore.

Kata retains a village feel at its northern and southern ends and is perhaps more family-oriented, its beach more peaceful than Patong. Nightlife is now quite active in Kata Center, a large choice of restaurants and bars open their doors all day, but it looks more lively at night.

Kata Activities

The Beach

Kata Beach is many people's favourite beach in Phuket. Stunningly beautiful with surfing from May to October, from November to April surfing is replaced by snorkeling and sunbathing and other watersports. The beach is palm lined and fairly busy but never too crowded to be annoying. In the high season, yachts moor just offshore, adding to the ambience and the sunsets here are some of the best in Thailand.

Restaurant lined or tree lined, there's a perfect spot for everyone at Kata.

Snorkelling

If you don't fancy diving or simply haven't got the time to do a dive course, snorkeling is an enjoyable way to view Phuket's underwater beauty. An added bonus to snorkeling is that you have a better chance of seeing fish, as the bubbles from aqua lungs can frighten them away.

Snorkeling can be enjoyed by simply hiring a mask, snorkel and fins from a nearby dive shop and swimming out to one of the reefs on Phuket's west coast, (not recommended during the rainy season).

The area between Koh Pu and Kata Beach is one of the best snorkeling spots that you can get to without a boat.

Surfing

Yes, we’re not kidding, but it’s hardly world class. Kata and Nai Harn seem to get the biggest waves but they’re actually quite modest. This makes them ideal for learning and some companies based at Kata offer lessons and boards for rent, if the surf’s up!
