I have been meaning to drop a note about this place. The Orchid Garden has become our day to day restaurant when in Patong. The restaurant is clean and well presented, linen table cloths and napkins. The staff are attentive as they were in a lot of the restaurants about two or three years ago in Patong.
The Thaifood and seafood that we ordered was not what we expected-by looking at the restaurant it is clearly a 1* or at best 2* place but the food that is served there is presented like a 5* restaurant.
The difference between the Orchid Garden and most of the 5* places in Thailand is that the food in thye Orchid has a great taste and you dont need to hit McD's on the way home! The restaurant is always busy for dinner and that is a good sign of course, and surrounded by the "Banana leaf" and the so called "Best Restaurant" (dont believe them its not), Banana and Best sit empty and the Orchid Garden fills up which gives it a lot of atmosphere.
A quick story for you. One my first day back on my last holiday there I ordered Panang Khai and in a moment of stupidity I ordered it spicy.
On seeing that I was struggling with my food and even though the restaurant was busy, the manager, Nut , a very smart and beautiful Thai lady, offered to change my food for something else and bought me a beer while I was waiting-blimey, never in my days has that happened to me or anyone that I know for that matter. its a only a small thing but this attitude sets the restaurant apart for the useual money grabbing attitude that swept through Phuket in the last couple of years.
Because of this service and the, as I later found out, the best seafood around Patong bar none, it became my local. My point,: try it at least once and reward this woman for her and her restaurants performance. Oh yeah, for those that are wondering they sell burgers and steaks too.
